Meet the Artist: Isaac Scott Hathaway (PDF)
This lesson plan reviews the nationally recognized art of African American sculptor, ceramicist, and illustrator Isaac Scott Hathaway. Hathaway created sculptures of notable African Americans from Arkansas. Suitable for grades K-12.

This lesson plan introduces students to the techniques of oral history and how it can be used to record community history. Suitable for grades K-12.

This interactive CD-Rom is a multimedia presentation featuring the personal stories of members of Little Rock's African American community.
A Teacher's Guide is also included. Suitable for grades 5-12.

Loan Boxes
Our loan boxes are designed for teachers to use in their classrooms and are packed with reproductions of historical artifacts, guide books, and other educational resources. Each box is adaptable for the grade levels specified. Arkansas teachers may check out a loan box for two week for free!
"Goin' North" Loan Box (Grades 4 - 8)
Download the Guidebook Now (PDF)This loan box focuses on Arkansas's African Americans and the Great Migration from early to mid-twentieth century. The loan box includes reproduction artifacts and other primary source documents which explore the complexities and effects of the Great Migration by focusing on the migrants themselves and the lives the African American migrants. This free classroom resource includes a teacher's guidebook with lesson plans, student worksheets, and related activities.

Teacher Workshops
The Mosaic Templars Cultural Center provides hands-on, multidisciplinary workshops that can be applied towards professional development credit, meet Arkansas Curriculum Standards, and are engaging for teachers of all levels!
These workshops explore specific themes associated with Arkansas's African American history and address different learning levels and multiple learning styles.
All of our workshops can be used to fulfill the professional development credit in Arkansas history, yet many of the sessions include information that is useful to other disciplines such as science, English, math, art, and music.
Entreprecation
Grades 4 - 12
Entrepre-what? This workshop focuses on entrepreneurship education. Teachers will participate in hands-on activities and projects that will help them explore the entrepreneurial spirit of Arkansas's African Americans.
Community Voices: Tools for Teaching Arkansas's African American History
All Grades
Maximum: 50 teachers
This workshop will introduce teachers to the Department of Arkansas Heritage's newest museum dedicated to Arkansas's African American history. It will also introduce teachers to the use of oral history in constructing community histories.
Exploring the Art of Isaac Scott Hathaway
All Grades
Maximum: 40 teachers
In this hands-on art-based workshop, teachers will learn about nationally recognized African American sculptor, ceramicist, and illustrator Isaac Scott Hathaway, and his sculptures of notable black Arkansans.
