Additional Event Details

Mosaic Templars Cultural Center will host a program titled “59 since ’59: Remembering the Tragedy at Wrightsville,” at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 3.

The event will mark the 59th anniversary of the fire that claimed 21 lives at the Boys Industrial School in Wrightsville on March 5, 1959. A brief presentation of the tragedy and surrounding events will precede a reading of the names of those who lost their lives.

Among event speakers will be Grif Stockley, author of "Black Boys Burning: The 1959 Fire at the Arkansas Negro Boys Industrial School."

This event is free and open to the public. MTCC is also in search of community members with ties to the event, including survivors, family members and other attendees of the school.

Although the fire at Wrightsville is a difficult subject for many Arkansans to discuss, MTCC hopes that through this program, it can offer both a piece of often untold Arkansas history as well as acknowledging and honoring those who lost their lives.
