Additional Event Details

We will host a letter-writing campaign with A Million Thanks to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day! The letters will go to U.S. veterans as an appreciation of their service.

A Million Thanks is a nonprofit organization that collects and sends letters and cards of appreciation to soldiers. The organization has distributed more than 7 million letters since 2004.

This year, MTCC plans to join the campaign while highlighting the contributions of African American veterans, who are often overlooked by history. MLK Day celebrates Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., and encourages Americans to volunteer and improve their communities.

MTCC will host a letter-writing event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18. Social distancing and masks are required. Letterheads, notecards and pens that participants can take home will be available on tables set up throughout the museum. Visitors will also have the chance to see “We Hold These Truths: American Veterans of Arkansas,” an exhibition on display through February.

Letters to veterans can be dropped off at MTCC independently from Jan. 4 to Jan. 18.

Letters collected or written during the MTCC event will be mailed Jan. 22 to A Million Thanks, which will distribute them to active-duty soldiers and veterans.
