An entrepreneur recognizes an opportunity to start a new business and acquires and organizes the resources to pursue that opportunity. In the post-Civil War period, black business activity intensified, and the entrepreneurial spirit of blacks incorporated ideals of self-help, economic independence, and an economic cooperative spirit.

Throughout Arkansas, black business men and women exemplified the spirit of the entrepreneur. This exhibit explores individuals in Helena, Pine Bluff, and Little Rock who owned their own businesses in the early part of the twentieth century. Entrepreneurs like Wiley Jones, Abraham Miller and Fannie Rowell are showcased.
